"good luck tiki"
Fourteen feet tall with a somewhat menacing look, a redwood tiki that was a fixture on the Redondo Beach Pier was recently discovered in a city storage facility.
Pier visitors might remember the giant tiki standing guard outside Helen Yue’s Restaurant or the Lahani Haloha lounge beginning in the 1960s. The good luck tiki survived the wrath of several nasty storms as well as the fire that nearly burned down the pier in 1988.
“It’s my hope we can restore the tiki and have it displayed somewhere in a public space in the city as a wonderful historic monument,” said Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin.
